- File transfer (I understand, it's on the way...)
- better MUC support - basically I mean, that very handy could be "ignore person" option - just possibility to "hide" someone's text completely out of chat window. And perhaps ability to "kick" somebody out of room (for "room founder")?
- Avatars

What about multi-language-support?
Or is this already implemented in some way and I didn't find it?
For non-english-speaking users this is very important (I would help with the german translation).

The German translation ist discussed in the Translations forum,
direct link:

http://psi.affinix.com/forums/index.php?ac...act=ST&f=3&t=74

The 0.9.1 translation is in progress, but not finished, it's a little bit
uncoordinated at the moment.
If you want to help, you can join us there.

Hi there,

I just got into the "world of jabber" 2 days ago. After trying out 6 or 7 clients I decided to stick with PSI, because it offered the best mix of features. Well done! :)

The feature I would welcome the most is at least basic MUC support. Right now I keep another client with sufficient MUC-features handy. Bit ideally I would prefer to do it all with Psi.

For me, that would be definitely the tabbed chatting. That is the feature I miss the most from Kopete.

I definitely will. :)

We are running a Forum ourselves, until now we have a Chat-Applet which connects to IRC, but that has so many drawbacks...
By luck I found out what debianforum.de were using for their chat (incidently one day after installing Jabber), which is a Jabber/MUC. I really see this as a good application. Especially with the option (in the future) of being able to run our own Jabber-Server (Integration of Registration, etc.etc.). MUCs are truly great for that purpose, IMHO. :)

I think it's very important to have Psi support all features that Microsoft Messenger provides, such that users are willing to switch. So, my list (in order of importance):

File transfer

Setup user wizard

'Is typing' notification

Avatars
99% agreed; I'm currently pushing Jabber as a messaging solution at work and amongst my friends and family, but most of them have MSN buddies and have got used to the features of the MSN client.  Simply telling them "It uses open protocols" just doesn't cut it, especially if they lose functionality.  I'd personally put Avatars above 'Is typing' notification though.

My List

Tabbed Chat Windows

Nicer OSD - like the one in Sim (meaning no new Window, but only the (green) Text string at the bottom of your screen or somewhere)

MUC :)
I'll be able to disable the contact is typing feature (so that the other party won't be able to see me typing) since I find this feature rather intrusive, in fact I've found it to be an annoyance rather than a benefit in clients most of the time. I feel the person I'm chatting with doesn't need to know more about my typing habits than what's revealed when my message arrives to him.

That goes without saying. The 'is composing' patch currently on the patches page already has a parameter to switch it off. But since you don't want the feature, this information is not useful to you :)

How about being able to see other people's 'contact is typing notifications' and your client (Psi) wouldn't send any of those?
Will you be happier? :)
It won't be 'intrusive' for you, it will be 'intrusive' only for others (because of their clients)

(+1 for the OpenSource community that can implement almost any weird feature)

Maybe some trust groups will be implemented... trusting notifications will be one thing (such extended properties for contacts/groups are planned).

Hi.

Why do you all want a wizard? Aren't you already using Psi in a very comfortable way?
What does a notification about typing bring to you? Has anybody ever failed to communicate because of this issue?

You first should concentrate on things that don't yet work correctly, and one of these definitely is the message history which isn't really usable.

As you have probably noticed in the roadmap on the Development page, the Psi team already focuses its interest on "things that don't yet work correctly" or must be implemented in order to make Psi a fully compliant Jabber client (such as File Transfer).
You can see right there that notifications & new user wizard is planned after major standards are fully implemented (and working properly).

IceRAM

P.S. Psi 0.9.2 history has search capabilities included (that doesn't mean the history won't be overhaulled in the future)
