Edgar has recently recieved some major TLC.  I know he's been unstable in the past, but he isn't anymore.  Sure, the ISP that he's located at goes down every once and a *great* while, but Edgar will automatically re-connect anyway.  What's important now is the features:

[15:08:19] <Fritzy> help
[15:08:20] <edgar@jabber.rocks.cc> Commands:
help - Displays this list of commands.

visible - Toggles Edgar's visibilty for you.  Off by default.  When visibility is off, he will show up as offline, but should still be online.  This feature is intended to prevent roster clutter.

seen user@server - Displays the last known moment that user was online, if they are subscribed to Edgar.  Feature was put into place on August 2nd, 2003, and thus will not have information on a user prior to that point.

uptime - Gives the time Edgar was started.

stats - Displays number of total subscribed users and number of subscribed users currently online.

Play around with the commands.  Let me know if you find a bug.  Also, I'm looking for input on new features!  Enjoy!

Simply GREAT! I was left speachless...

Everything works neatly... perfectly...

You didn't mention the 'about' command though ;) ) going through a 'modest' phase of your life.

(optional) psi version checking, with a link to the new version for your platform if you're not running it :)

I'd extend upon this, and somehow get version details from jabber.org about all clients.  That way I could ask Edgar:
latest psi
or
latest gabber2
and he would get the results from the (xml?) file over at jabber.org and return them to the user.  Heck we can probably set up a detailed amount of options per user, so that they can be automatically notified of new versions of whatever clients they like.  Oh, and I do like IceRAM's idea of the About box.  Be proud of your efforts, Fritzy!

Hal says: adventure
Edgar says: You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here.
Hal says: open mailbox
Edgar says: Opening the small mailbox reveals a leaflet.

I don't know if this is a bug.

If you make Edgar visible and go offline, then back online (or if you just quit Psi), Edgar is invisible.  You have to toggle visibility twice to make him visible (once to make him 'invisible' and once to make him visible again).

Shouldn't Edgar be staying visible after going offline and then back online ??

Ummm... it doesn't behave like that for me.  It sounds like your Jabber server stops caring about his status to you.  Not a big deal, I'll make it resend the correct status to you when you log in... I was just trying to avoid extra SQL queries.

The way Edgar behaves for me, Tony, and Hal is your visibility mode is remembered even if you log off, Edgar logs off, etc.  So, if you set him to visible, he stays visible no matter who relogs.

Again, it sounds like an inconsitance with your server's jabberd, but I'll fix it for you anyway.   B)

Ok, I just got done working with cRaYoN, and the issue has been resolved.  Anyone else?

Might as well say now that new features seem to be going into Edgar fairly often, so just hit help every few days to see if there's a new feature you'd like.  We should have reminders working soon.

Edgar's help system has been improved and he has a new command: remind

Usage: remind [modifier] > [Message]

[modifier] can be things like "+3 hours 5 minutes", "10:24PM", "tomorrow", "next week", "August 9th, 12:24PM", etc.
Everything is done in GMT.

Enjoy.

UUU... those reminders are really... really... interesting.

Does Edgar have some kind of 'broadcasting' command to be used by the admins (does he know who's an admin?) to notify the users about... let's say... new features?  ;)

I too am interested in the availability of these mods. I arrived here from http://phpjabber.g-blog.net looking for the Jabber integration for PHPBB. However I was surprised to find Invision board. Better, much better.

My question therefore is:

Is the mod, as used here, to integrate Jabber into Invisionboard available to the general population?

and is the Edgar bot available to the general population?

I am currently planning a new community where Jabber will be the IM of choice, primarily to offer conferencing via an IM. Both of these items would help immensely.

Cheers
