Subject: Psi Jingle status?
Hi,

I have been searching for a while for a good Jingle compatible client on windows. So far PSI seemed to be the most promising, but it is not clear for me if the Jingle support is still being working on or is it completely stalled?

I have tested dozens of clients (linux, windows, os x) and so far (except iChat) the best Jingle compatible client I have seen is the Nokia N810 / maemo one. It works with Google Chat and it is clean and nice. I am not sure of which backend it uses (Telepathy?) and if it is portable to Windows (I mean not tied too much to some Gnome libs and Dbus system).

I am so disappointed that in 2008 (almost 2009) there is no mainstream Jabber client with good voice support... I want to get ride of Skype, but haven't found a good open source alternative so far.

PSI is really a good piece of software, keep up the good work!

Best regards,
Nicolas.

We share your disappointment.

Work has started on Jingle, and we are aiming on finishing it in Q1 of 2009.

That sounds promising :)

However, it seems that there is nothing libjingle related on the current set of tasks for version 0.13 in the Flyspray road map. Does this mean that the work on Jingle will only begin for version 0.14? Either way, I look forward to Psi supporting this :)

We don't put everything in flyspray, particularly not things we're working on at the moment - it's there to make sure we don't forget about bugs or feature requests for the future.

Also: the protocol libjingle uses isn't Jingle, so you're not likely to find much about libjingle in Flyspray anyway :)

Oh, I see. I had the impression that the road map would include things that were currently being worked on.

Yeah, I noticed this later when reading other posts, but clearly I was misled :)

Is the target moving, or we can increase our expectation level?
I'd like to test it at least, but did not found any recent coherent info. Most pages I got are outdated. Thanks for any directions..

It will be no later than 0.14.  There's nothing to test in the Psi user interface itself yet, but if you're a developer-type and interested in testing some of our components then stop by the Psi room (psi@conference.psi-im.org) or join/read the Delta mailing list.
