Subject: Check Spelling : CRASH
Hi all..
I have been trying out some of the 'nightlies' pre-releases.  Reason being is that I believe the newest builds fix a problem with the keyboard focus being stolen when new messages arrive.

However, I have now noticed that the Psi application will crash (it closes without warning) when certain words are typed into the chat window with 'check spelling' enabled.  I can recreate this crash on multiple machines typing in the same partial word into the chat window with all nightlies from 5-21 on.  If I disable the check spelling feature it will not crash.

Anybody know of this problem, and have a fix?

Thanks
,jr

If it's not secret or offensive ;), could you tell us what exactly do you type?

It is weird, I have seen it happen with mulitple odd words or names..  Here is one of them

type without quotes 'salmana' ...

This will crash mine.. no dialog, Psi just disappears.

And what language are you trying to spell check in?

This bug is the problem that blocks RC3 from being released. mblsha found out some time ago but it is hard to fix as it only appears in release mode code.

Yet another similar issue: Qt-4.4.0 & PSI-svn. Spell check trouble.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I did try to search for this with 10 different search-strings but didn't find anything.

So this is a tricky fix, huh?  Anybody have a handle on why it happens?  Disable the 'check spelling', and it works fine.

Thanks again.

Is it fixed? It doesn't crash in the latest version of SVN

Any word on what the solution was?  I'm developing another QT application and ran into this problem but haven't found a solution.  Wondering what you did to prevent the crash.  Thanks,

You'll laugh.
Don't use the spelling style, but use something else, like a dotted line, for the affected text. It seems the spelling highlight style is broken in Qt-4.4, in some circumstances.

Hah. Thanks much.  Frustrating that this would only show up when compiled with -QT_NO_DEBUG.  Good find, hopefully this thread will help out others who run into this crash - not much info from google or TT.
