Just a quick note: README file in SVN still says that this is Psi-0.12-RC1.

It seems that chats sent to contact's bare JID (if contact is online) are not notified or displayed to addressee, even if they correctly arrive to him (because they appear in history). I still have to confirm this on either clean sources of Psi-SVN or on official Psi-0.12-RC2 Windows binaries.

First observed on slightly modified Psi-SVN rev.1092 and probably also on Psi-SVN rev.1069.

Confirmed with official Psi-0.12-RC2 Windows binaries.

Prerequisites
  • Psi-0.12-RC2 Windows binary.
  • Two Jabber accounts (they can be on the same server), say A and B. Each contact has the other in its roster. Both contacts have "both" authorisation.
  • Important: Psi|Options|Chat|Raise chat window on receiving new messages option is set to off.*)

Steps to reproduce
1. Run Psi-0.12-RC2.
2. Go online on both accounts.
3. In account A, double click on contact B. A chat dialog will open.
4. Post any chat line to contact B.
5. An event notification toolbar appears in roster but it disappears after a split of a second.
No chat dialog for contact B (and chat with contact A) appears, neither icon in tray changes its state.

Main issue
  • No visible cue to know about incoming chats (event notifier toolbar is hidden, tray icon is normal).

---
*) If it's set to on, then upon receiving an incoming chat:
1. Tray icon changes to "incoming chat".
2. If contact status is not DND, then chat dialog appears and tray icon then reverts to normal, otherwise tray icon remains in "incoming chat" state.
This is an expected behaviour.

Yet another complaint: if Psi|Options|Chat|Raise chat window on receiving new messages option is on, then chat or message dialog will always be displayed in front of all other windows and will also steal focus.

Note: Switching Psi|Options|Events|Auto-open new messages option to on with Psi|Options|Chat|Raise chat window on receiving new messages option turned off doesn't seem to work. Psi behaves just like it was described in my previous post.

That's been the behaviour since day one

I can't verify your other claim - if I have autoopen on, and send a message to myself, it opens the chat.

It's me again ;) Maybe this detailed report will help isolate the problem.

Windows XP SP2 with all the patches. I'm using Microsoft TweakUI PowerToy for Windows XP to enforce applications not to steal focus.

Psi configuration (selected options only):
  • Psi|Options|Chat|Raise chat window on receiving new messages is disabled
  • Psi|Options|Events|Auto-open new messages is enabled
  • Psi|Options|Events|Auto-open new headlines is enabled
  • All other Psi|Options|Events options are disabled
  • I'm using separate (i.e. not-tabbed) chat dialogs (as well as MUCs)

Psi-0.12-SVN rev.1024 (February 10, 2008) - New chat arrives, chat dialog is opened, does not steal focus, taskbar button blinks and displays an asterisk next to the name of the contact.

Psi-0.12-SVN rev.1092 (April 02, 2008) - New chat arrives, chat dialog is not opened. If Psi|Options|Chat|Raise chat window on receiving new messages option is enabled, chat dialog will open and steal focus. If the next chat message arrives, taskbar button blinks once and no asterisk is displayed.

I have the same problem on Vista x64 and Windows XP SP2.  Version 0.11 works but version 0.12-RC2 won't display new incoming messages if auto-open is enabled.

I can reproduce this here with the svn version, and from the code I can see why it happens.  I'm looking into a fix.

FYI, things haven't changed with Psi-SVN rev.1143.

Hello all,

First off for all the people that contribute to the development of this app, thank you!.

This is really the one and only problem I have with the Psi software and is the only complaint I've had users that I support.  As it has been discussed the chat window steals focus (steals keyboard) when you have auto-open new msgs enabled and it is the first msg envoking a new chat window (if a chat window is already open it does not do this).  The problem with this is when you are working on a different application typing when a new msg comes in it steals the keyboard focus and you end up typing in that chat window and sending unintended msgs.  I think Psi is great, but for what it's worth every-single other IM application I have used does not do this (Sametime, YIM, MS, ICQ, others).  It will alert of a new msg by blinking the chat window and coresponding task-bar tab but will not steal keyboard focus.  Anyway I'm sure this has been gone over by others, I just want to make sure you all know what I am talking about.

Anyway..  I notice there may be a fixed revision (1152) as mentioned.  Could somebody point me in the right direction to download that Rev.

Anyother info in regards to this problem and what can be done, i'd appreciate it.

Thank you all !

,jr

Because the fix was made today and the builds are made at night (as the name implies).
