Subject: Wiki locked down again
Stupid vandals!  I've temporarily locked the wiki down to new user registrations and anonymous edits.  Please bear with me until I can improve the situation.  If you'd like to make any edits in the meantime, contact one of the wiki admins.

Hal, one thing: why on Earth Psi Wiki logs me out after 5 (or so) minutes? I usually log in, open recent changes special page and visit every modified (since my last visit) page. Usually when I come to the third or fourth modified page, I'm logged out already (I'm logged with my IP and not as myself).

I forgot when I last logged in the Wiki. I'm still logged.

Same here.  Maybe there is a preference to set the cookie length?

Since CAPTCHAS and whatever don't seem to help (I suppose they're already in, but then, I don't know the type of vandalism), couldn't there be something like a moderation queue known from boards and blogs? This will effectively prevent any public effect of those changes and in consequence reduce their efforts, too.

Captchas are not in place, and wikis inherently do not do moderation in the same way as CMSs.  The point of a wiki is that moderation happens after the fact by whomever happens to notice it.

The wiki for us is somewhat of an experiment.  I want it to work but ultimately, if it fails, I'll use something else.  What I've been trying to do is encourage people to contribute by making the barrier-to-entry as low as possible.  I.E., no registration required.

hal, are you aware that Bad Behavior 2 was released?
I know you were commenting to io_error that you were interested in testing the MediaWiki integration.

It's official now, all except for the options page, which he says will come later.

Well aware.  Almost installed it yesterday but watched a movie instead.

Ok, BB2 is now installed, and the wiki is once more unlocked.  Jason, I'm in pretty close contact with the BB author with regards to how its working on MediaWiki.  When we had a recent vandal get past it, I sent my database logs to him and he included new checks in the code.

I knew something was there ;).

Glad to hear it though!  I hope to not see threads like this again.

Don't tread on my hope >:E~~~

:)
There will always be one that slips by.  Let's just hope it doesn't happen for as long as possible.
