I like them but I'm not sure they are exactly what you are looking for so I'm going to make two more sets and maybe people can vote on which ones they like the best...
I'll work on them over the weekend and should have them posted by sunday evening

Since I made the original Jabber icon for this forum from the phpBB SDK, I can probably have a crack at the other status icons too.  Of course, if -=harry=-'s graphics are better, I have no problem using them instead.  I'm not a nazi.   :-D

Not bad at all mate.  Here's my attempt:

Online: [Image: http://tony.rocks.cc/gfx/jabber_status/online.gif]
Away:  [Image: http://tony.rocks.cc/gfx/jabber_status/away.gif]
XA:  [Image: http://tony.rocks.cc/gfx/jabber_status/xa.gif]
DND:  [Image: http://tony.rocks.cc/gfx/jabber_status/dnd.gif]
Offline:  [Image: http://tony.rocks.cc/gfx/jabber_status/offline.gif]

I'm not too keen on green and red lightbulbs... it just seems too... gaudy.  That's why I just used yellow, and gradually darkened it.

Should we have a vote from other forum users on which ones they prefer?  Don't forget, you can pick and choose some from each collection...

Of course, I was thinking that even if no one else posted their attempts.  If it's close across the board use the winner on the site but package them all in the mod as options, just another suggestion.

heh, thanks mate.  I just stole the cross from the DND icon that comes as part of the Psi "Stellar" icon theme, and pasted it on top of my original graphic.  (Credit where it's due)

We only seem have about ten people who use these forums on a daily basis, so I'm tipping that we won't get a very large amount of votes.  I'm hoping that Fritzy will at least vote, since he's the one working on the status mod.  *nudges Fritzy*

As for your icons being all colourful... they kinda look a bit like Christmas lights.   :lol:  Perhaps we could use mine on an everyday basis, and put yours up in December?   Kind of how Google changes its logo on special days.   ;-)

I'll probs use something like the first set on my site http://www.hotchson.com but you are more than welcome to do whatever you want with them.

yo Fritzy, is this mod going to be purely a status indicator or is there going to be the same messaging functionality as on http://forum.glue.g-blog.net/ ??

There will be messenging.  Sorry for the delay guys, I've been much busier than expected.

New timeline: It'll be finished when it's done.

I have a working version of the bot, and I'm currently experimenting with PHPBB interaction.

You have it working?  Awesome!

You mentioned that it will be a persistant script that runs in the background, receiving status and storing in a database.  We don't have the rights to run persistant scripts on this server (yet), so we may have to run it remotely.

I'm happy to run the script on my personal hosting, and have this site connect to it.   Do you mind sending me a copy of the script so that I can conduct some preliminary testing?

Well, we have the basic bot up, and it certainly works well for presence.  As far as the more advanced server, we'll have to research that some more, since we can't run the scripts locally.

I have some ideas that are definately "doable."  I kNIGits and I thought it would be best to get the presence indicators up first though.

In fact, as I write this, I keep having more ideas about the great things we could do without having the bot script itself local.  Stay tooned kids!

Alrighty, let's get those ideas flowing!  The next thing that people would probably like would be for the bot to report to them when a reply has been posted on a thread they're watching... what other ideas are in that busy brain of yours?

I think it would be VERY easy to do IM messaging on the PHPBB board.
All we would have to do is exactly what status.php does:

$JABBER->Connect()
$JABBER->SendMessage
$JABBER->Disconnect

If you don't specify the Resource, Class.Jabber.PHP generates one using the timestamp as a key.  In any case, sending a message could log in as Edgar@jabber.rocks.cc/randomhash real quick, send the message, and log off.

I also think that your vCard script could be improved to <presence type='probe'/> for the users <status> message.

You mentioned in a post that the Message dialog could be loaded from the vCard window.  I would think it would be more logical the opposite direction because the Message Dialog would load a lot faster than the vCard Window.

In any case, I'm still exploring ideas about new post notification... we could take a simular approach with it, but we'd need to know exactly how the PHPBB database works.
