wouldn't it be better to wait for the online language system wich was supposed to come on the first of june (but seems to be little delayed)?

But in fact, I don't know how to do exactly for a first time translation in a new language. :unsure:

I confirm that using Qtlinguist is very easy. I just unpacked and run it then open the french .ts file and made the translation (with the good advices and explanations of cRaYoN :-D )

You could wait until the new system is lauched off course. But you can already update the language (so it'll work with 0.92). That way, the translation can be released very soon after the official 0.92 release.

I can not begin the french translation because the .ts file in the cvs is based on the 0.9 version of the translation (see my post)

What tool do I use to translate in Linux. I thought that the translation system is the same as for most of the other Linux apps (using gettext and then editing PO or POT files). For PO files there is an excellent tool included with KDE - KBabel. So is there anything similar to KBabel to translate Psi in Linux?

Psi is written in Qt. Qt library uses own translation system, which is the same for all platforms. Translations are made using Qt Linguist (on Linux You can run it by entering linguist at console, which will bring Qt Linguist GUI).

Qt Linguist is part of Qt development suite, which on Linux is usually distributed as qt-devel, libqt-devel, qt3-devel, libqt3-devel or similiar named package. Make sure that devel package matches the Qt library (binary) package (qt, libqt, qt3 or libqt3 package) as it goes for the versions of the packages.

Thanks for the info. QT Linguist is already installed. How are the different forms of plurals handeled by it? Where can I get the original template with english phrases that I need to translate?

I don't understand what You mean. All languages that I know have single plural form per person (and gender). And in Psi (as in all user interfaces) generally second person singular is used.

I mean something like this: 1 file, 2 files -> 1 datoteka, 2 datoteki, 3 datoteke
So plural forms in combination with numbers

I tried some link posted there but the page did not exist. I'll take another look at the posts to see if I missed anything.

As far as I know there is no way to handle plural forms in linguist the way you can do with kbabel and gettext. However, as far as I remember, there are no strings in psi that require such plural forms.
If you have problems working with linguist, you can always use kbabel. The newer versions can open .ts (linguist) files.

I tried some link posted there but the page did not exist. I'll take another look at the posts to see if I missed anything.

Subject: Qt Linguist for MacOS X

Does anybody know of a downloadable binary of Qt Linguist for MacOS X?

I could install the whole Qt development environment from source, but that seems a little overkill, as I only want to fiddle around with a Psi language pack and not do any other Qt hacking. Apart from that, Qt is bound to take hours to compile...

Thanks for pointing out the link, but I had already tried it and found out, that it only contains a Win32 binary. I would need a MacOS X binary...

I didn't test that archive when posting, that's why I have pointed it. Of course, MacOS X won't run the Portable Executable

Some Google'ing returned this site which provides QtLinguist for all three major platforms (Windows, Linux and MacOS X) free of charge. QtLinguist for Windows is from Qt-3.3.4, so it's quite new (ATM, Trolltech has released Qt-3.3.6).

BTW: Maybe we could provide QtLinguist for all three platforms on our Webpage? Hal?
