Kev and all others,
keep the good work. Its better to let you work now :)
Maybe the next test release has this builltin?

I have made an IM client for mobile phones two years ago, XMPP based, and I know the work it gives.
It was for one company from the same group of SAPO, which sponsors you. Ive noticed that some guys from Portugal are also contributing for the Psi effort. I would also like to contribute but it would require my company to give me time to spare on this which is difficult. My collegues at Sapo maybe can help since they are allocated to this.
Maybe in the future we can try to do a similar stuff with the mobile IM client as open source.

Regards,
bitcoder

It certainly won't be in the next release, 0.10, as that's feature complete and just waiting for graphics. We'll be maintaining the psi-jingle port until it's merged though, as well as providing builds when it's stable enough, so it should be ok for availability.

Subject: Alsa and portaudio
I saw in the last changes that you added support for the portaudio framework.
Do you plan to support alsa only through portaudio ?

If so, I think it is a bad idea, since portaudio doesn't work with dmixed plugins (you have to close your xmms before calling someone... ). This is already a major flaw in the openwengo project that also uses portaudio. Maybe they (the portaudio guys) will fix that, but that does not look like it is their priority.

What can do the current version of psi-jingle ? Does it work on alsa dmixed devices ? How is the sound quality ?

The current version of psi-jingle works on alsa. I do not know about dmixed devices. Sound quality is impressive. As for alsa in portaudio, you have to give those guys a chance; they claim that alsa support is unfinished, and don't support it at all in their release versions.

Well we'll see.
If I manage to make it work on my box with alsa dmix, I'll tell you on this thread.

Anyway, thank you for your great work ;-)

As far as portaudio is concerned, you can build it with linphone libraries instead and that works with ALSA just fine.  That'll get you by until portaudio has proper alsa support.

I finally built it on my box.
And I have some questions :
1 - how can we choose the sound device ?
2 - how to make the Voice Call icon available ? (it's grey in my windoow) I opened 2 instances of psi-jingle on my machine with 2 different accounts and it was still grey. Do I need several machines to test it ?
3 - I think this thread is not the place for discussing such technical issues... but where should it be ? ;-)

Is there need to have a new forum just for Jingle discussions?  Should this stuff be moved to the Beta forum instead?  Or is everybody ok with how things are today?

1 - Is determined by the config of Linphone on your machine, I believe.
2 - The Voice Call ability is determined using Entity Capabilities, so you must open a chat with someone who has Jingle capabilities reported by their client.

I think I'm using portaudio right now... but I'll give it a try and compile with linphone.
BTW isn't there some environment variable for portaudio ?

I was doing the test with 2 instances of psi-jingle. If psi-jingle hasn't those capabilities, there is a problem !

1) The portaudio code isn't written yet, it's just a dummy ;)
2) Ps-jingle has those capabilities, if you've compiled it with --enable-jingle

This thread has been moved to a new forum.  Feel free to skip up one level and you can create new Jingle threads.

Mediastreamer selects your default Alsa device. So, if you change that, it should use that card.
I think the following .asoundrc should work:
pcm.!default {
       type hw
       card 1
}
(where card is the id of your card). No guarantees though.

Libjingle provides some support for selecting the audio device, but it's not used in the media engine provided.
