I like the style but everything is f---ng gigantic in here. Had to go down five steps in font size to not being hit in the nose by the name of people. It feels like I can only fit in two single letters at the same time on the screen. What kind of monster screen do you guys have?

Me too, but I never run my screen maximized, so let's say 900x800.  Is it something that decreasing the font size "fixes" for you, or are there other things you feel get in the way?

1280x1024 @ 17" TFT. Browser size 1024x768 (default for best web experience).
The font size in this forum is all as intended (by me :D). I've seen many web pages go down to 8pt (11px) size, which seems to be Windows' default. But it's a bit small on a 17" TFT so I decided to preset a size of 10pt (13px) which seems to be Word's and more like OSX default size. It's prefectly readable for me. The small text is at 8pt again.

Your esteemed webmaster has poor vision, so you won't see him using 8pt fonts anywhere for "body text".

I tried 1280 @ 21" CRT, I really tried to make it work.  Text and widgets were just too small for my poor eyes.  :(

That's not true at all, web browsers are quite capable of resizing the fonts.

I know this.  You can even change the base font size at the OS level such that 8pt on your screen is 10 or 12 on mine.  It just didn't work out, not sure why.  Might be the OS widgets not scaling or something, I don't recall now.

I occasionally do zoom in one step in Firefox.  Not often, but sometimes there's some poorly styled <pre> or <code> out there.

Sizing web fonts via OS settings works well if you use "em" for font sizes, not "pt". Points are for printing, not for displaying.

Websites do not have to consist only of text ;)

Indeed, but there's nothing to stop someone providing multiple CSSs for different sizes, with different graphics. HTML really doesn't suck that much, it's just that people tend to abuse it for layout instead of content.
