Our new wiki is at http://psi-im.org/wiki.  It's already got a lot of great content but we need your help in making it even better!  Be sure to read the Wiki Guidelines.  The wiki is based on MediaWiki, just like Wikipedia, so many of you will already be familiar with the syntax.  And just so you don't forget, you can always find a link to the new wiki on the top right of the Psi website (http://psi.affinix.com).

If any of you are experienced wiki'ers (or writers of any kind really) who would like to contribute anything substantial, such as several pages, feel free to contact me, Kev, IceRAM or Spike (your WikiAdmins) directly for organizational assistance.

The front page of the wiki is locked, but if you have an idea for a page you'd like to see there, let us know in this thread.

We have not discussed the best way to handle multiple languages, but certainly want to.  Comments on that are definitely welcome.

We're already thinking of it. In fact, providing centralized and localized versions of Psi documentation was our priority. :)

3. User Guide (2,581 views)
I am still trying not to make the "User Guide (one page)" less popular, by changing links to point to the separate pages.

Didn't i explicitly ask not to do this yet ? I want to do rearrangements now, and i have to fight the whole page structure, just as i foresaw happening.

Errr... not to do what?

As far as I remember, I was against the whole page User Guide from the very beginning. Unfortunately, the User Guide was needed from the begining. We couldn't add everything in the FAQ, Google Talk HowTo, Tutorial.

Once I've split the User Guide into several pages (that was a few days ago), I've even added comments on linking the User Guide in the Wiki Guidelines.

Reasons for splitting it, discussed with Hal:
1. the page is already really big, without screenshots => loads slow => add screenshots => loads slower
2. linking to it is a no-no, see above reason
3. some headings required changing => if somebody linked to them => links should be modified => you would get lost in the big document trying to figure out where was the info before (having a small document linked, it's easier to go through it, even if the section name changed; redirections also help here)
4. the new split design makes it easier to do redirects of several titles to a one page: try the search box with: MUC, GroupChat, Multi User Chat (btw, the search function of mediawiki is not great and this overcomes the problems).
5. the one page User Guide is created by transcluision - including smaller pages into a template page. Check the source of the one-page User Guide to see how easy to understand it is.

Also, Hal agreed that, on the front page, we should link the User Guide category, since it loads faster. If some users, like you, like the one page User Guide, they can find the link to the big-size User Guide right at the beginning of the User Guide Category.

An interesting link: Wikipedia: Transclusion costs and benefits - might be some extra reasons for dropping the one page User Guide.

Updated Wiki Guidelines.

Don't forget to have a look before contributing or linking to the Wiki.
Thanks.

We got WikiSpammed.  I just don't get it...makes even less sense than graffiti IRL.  Anyway, thanks to Kev, IceRAM and Michalj for damage control.  I have now installed a MediaWiki extension that should eliminate this problem, or at least greatly minimize it.

If anyone has problems using the wiki, or if you get any 412 (or any other) errors, let me know.

Our new wiki is at http://psi-im.org/wiki.
Great!  :)

However, could the Wiki get more integrated (by way of navigation) into the Psi homepage? For example, I think it would be good just to link to the Wiki as "Documentation" in the navbar (and please put it more to the left - documentation's more important to users than "Development", "Bug Tracker", "Changelog", or "Authors"). Some of the project page's currently static contents could be included in the wiki, too ("About", "Development", "Authors"). Otherwise the Wiki probably will appear too much as a separate information source - at least to new users.

Wiki is a part of the new and improved Psi Website. We wanted to keep it (Wiki) secret until the release of Psi-0.10. Google has published its Google Talk and we had to make our Wiki available to public earlier than we expected.

Don't exaggerate, many people knew about the wiki before that ;) We were just waiting for a good time to announce it in the forums, and that was a good time.
