So I've seen the tunecontroller is in the 0.11 beta2 ... can anyone tell how to use this now?
I can't find any plugin which I can use with Winamp or XMMS ... :( Or how can I set it up correctly?

Ciao Ephraim

I should add that it's not worth getting too excited about this yet, because although Psi supports it, no public servers do yet.

Winamp or XMMS plugins for tunecontroller should be compiled when you compile Psi.

I did a user tune experiment with Remko a few weeks ago over the then pubsub method.  It was a several step process.  Not quite ready for user consumption.  But cool nonetheless.  :)

We'll get there.  In fact we're pioneers in this area.  I don't think anyone else is doing this in Jabber "the right way".  I can see Miranda having a plugin to music players and a paste command into the current window.  I know Trillian does something like that.

What we have now, however, is transparent. If you're interested in someone's tune, right click them and enable a subscription to it, no pubsub services, no node selection. What you /do/ need, however, is a server supporting JEP-0163, and there isn't any production-ready code for this yet (there is a patch for ejabberd, but the author has suggested it's not production-ready; that said, I'll be running it as soon as I get around to patching my personal server).

the admin of jabber.ccc.de (who describes pubsub as a possible killer-feature for jabber) stated on his services page that he will install a pubsub service as soon as the first client pops up that supports it.

weird thing: the service discovery shows a pubsub service for jabber.ccc.de (pubsub.jabber.ccc.de)

What we need for this is PEP (JEP-0163) servers, not the full Pubsub, and there is no production code for that yet.

The admin was right though, Pubsub has tried very hard to kill Jabber.

Timonator, pubsub is out on two or three servers now.  There are just (almost) no applications for it yet.  ejabberd was the first server to have pubsub support IIRC.  I think Jive has it now.

And we have a full implementation of the current version of the spec, so the only thing we will have to wait for once the spec is standardized are servers supporting it :-) I was told that the development version of ejabberd would support it by july or so.

there is good support for PEP for ejabberd for now, few production servers start using it, like mine (jabber.autocom.pl), pep can be found here:
http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~henoch/text/ejabberd-pep.html

now we waiting for psi-interface for PEP...

The Psi PEP interface was there before the ejabberd implementation. All we are waiting for is not the Psi interface, we are waiting for the official release of server software with PEP support.

If you want to use user tune, enable 'publish tune', and start playing something using Winamp, iTunes, or XMMS (if you compiled XMMS support in)

I agree with that. I'm not a programmer, but I don't think it's hard for good programmer to write an amaroK-Plugin, since amaroK supports DCOP. Simply read the output of
gollo@localhost ~ $ dcop amarok player nowPlaying
and do a /me is listening to $output or something similar. You need DCOP for that, though. I hope my idea of a solution isn't simply stupid. If so, forgive the n00b. Thank you.
If you never try anything new, you'll miss out on many of life's great disappointments.

Incoming Qt-4.2 brings DCOP support, we're waiting for final version of Qt-4.2 to release next Psi-0.11-beta version.

BTW: It's Amarok now, not amaroK.
