Subject: couple questions about psi client
First just want to say I have tested about 8 different jabber im clients and psi is the best one I have found.

Now my question, I am trying to get an open source IM going where I work. I have wildfire running and have 99% decided on psi as the client. I was wanting to see if anyone could tell me exactly what is happening when you first log in and it has the edit personal details screen up, where you hit publish. It seems that you have to publish to keep that screen from popping up when you go online with the psi client. I figured it updated some information inside wildfire but when I checked the server I did not see the "name" field updated.

Also this is strictly for internal use for our employees. Is there a way to have psi connect to external messaging services if so can I block that?

Thanks

Jon

Hello,

The only thing Psi requires to be filled in vCard (user information) in order not to pop it up on every run is user's nickname.

Psi is Jabber/XMPP-only IM software, so it requires Jabber/XMPP server with transports to other IM networks (the ones like AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!, MSN, Gadu-Gadu and others) to be able to communicate with users of those networks.

If Your server at Your workplace does not provide any transport to IM networks and You block s2s (server-to-server) communication and ports used for c2s (client-to-server) communication (usually ports 5222 and 5223, however ports 80 and 443 are sometimes used, but not every Jabber/XMPP listens on those ports), Psi users won't be able to contact other IM networks.

Thanks!  We can't hear that enough.

I think that Psi + Wildfire sounds like a perfect solution for you.  If you need anything else, let us know...

We consider Psi+Wildfire as a best possible solution for corporate IM too. Wildfire is integrated with our Asterisk based VoIP system and so I have a question concerning that.

In our case user's status message is changing to "on the phone" whenever he picks up his phone. Is it possible to change his status icon in Psi rosters of other users to indicate this ? I know, that there is no such Jabber status as "on the phone", but can I do this based on status message ?

I'm afraid not as things stand (and it seems an unlikely feature implementation due to the specificity).
However, the current dev builds allow the status to be displayed in the roster (in text), which would /probably/ also convey the information you're interested in :)

At the risk of defections, I wonder how Spark handles this case?

1. Logout from all Your accounts.
2. Open Psi menu, go to Change profile.
3. In newly opened window, select language of Your choice (there is a list of available languages) and press Open.
4. Go online if needed.

I guess you're using Windows?
Go to the Start menu -> Programs -> Startup, and right-click on Psi there and delete it.
