Subject: What we're doing
Hi everyone, long time no announcements.  Well we have actually been pretty busy little bees on the Psi front, and I thought I'd pass along some news for those that are a watchin'.

  • Planet Psi is getting some pretty regular updates from me and the devs.  Definitely check it out if you have not already.
  • The Psi team was incredibly fortunate to have been awarded four Google Summer of Code projects!  We're very excited about what the next six (or so) weeks will bring for us.
  • On that note, Kev our fearless leader is working on a SoC project to bring Plugins to Psi.  You can find the details and progress on the Psi Plugins wiki page at the Jabber.org wiki.  Also, you'll see regular updates on Kev's blog (which is contained within the Planet Psi feed).

We haven't formally changed the roadmap yet, but here are some other things that are likely to be coming very soon:
  • MUC (finally!)
  • A new options system
  • Remote Control
  • XMPP compliance

Lots of stuff going on!  So much for a boring 'QT4 conversion' 0.11 release.  :)

Beta 3 will be coming out in a little bit and you'll be able to see some of these things in action.

(Here's Beta 2: Windows, Mac, Source.)

Also, Machekku of our community was allowed to pursue his HTTP Authentication Suite project for this year's SoC.
To "defend" myself about "betraying" this community ;) I will just add that one of effects of my project will be a patch for Psi adding support for JEP-0070. And moreover: a really unexpected side effect of my work is (already submitted) patch improving stanza errors handling in Psi, which means (for normal user) no more empty "Reason: " error messages :)

Cool, so that must mean that the student working on the Instnat Syndicating project decided to use Psi as his XMPP engine?

Unfortunately, that's not something we're doing right now. I think the poll was to find out what you were looking forward to in the next (2) version(s). Although the list should have been much longer :D

Something else: message archiving, messages and logs searches.

You mean support of them or a rewrite?

There is no message archiving (when it's read, it's deleted), search in logs is now hidden in log archives dialog (IMHO, it should be in the Psi menu, including message archive search), this log archive dialog could be a far better UI.

You can't have it both ways, either 'There is no message archiving' is true (which it's not), or 'archive dialog could be a far better UI' (which it is, and is why it's planned for an overhaul).  Either way, the poll was asking which of the features due in the immediate future you're most excited about, not which feature which is later in our plans.

Forgive me for nitpicking but I noticed that the beta version only released pre-compiled packages to windows and mac. What about us, the hard-working and (somewhat) decent linux folks? We need some love too, you know?   <_<

Here you go:
sh ./configure
make
make install
You are welcome.  :p

There are release builds on OSX and Windows, where we can (almost) guarantee those packages work on all OSX and Windows platforms. If we could easily provide a single Linux package which worked for all distros we would; until then, we rely on users of the appropriate distributions of (GNU/)Linux to contribute builds for their platform.

Hey folks

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to be active in the Psi community lately and I did not yet have time to try 0.11 betas (actually, I'm using the psi RPM of a fedora core repo atm and they have 0.10 only).

But now I just had 5 min to spend in the forums and found this thread - great news :)

Congratulations to so many SoC projects! that's indeed great! :)

keep it going, it's great work being done by you guys - as I'm used to by the psi team :)

I'm really looking forward to using psi 0.11 when it's finally released as stable.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to MUC support (I love IRC, but it's time to become modern) and Plugin support (especially since it's python!).

yea, that's it for...uhm...I guess for the time until the final release of 0.11, school's keeping me damn busy at the moment - but it's over soon :D
If you find any (coarse) mistakes in my English (e.g. grammar, sentence structure, wrong words used, misspellings that are not just typos, ...), please tell me. I appreciate any help in these matters.
